XP is generally very good at locating all needed drivers for most any computer that&#039;s a few months old. However, with laptops, drivers are very specifically detailed, not general like a desktop motherboard driver.

Try to locate the chipset driver for your laptop. It sounds like the driver for your PCMCIA slot isn&#039;t working or isn&#039;t activating the port. If you can&#039;t find the chipset driver from the manufacturer&#039;s website, try
They have over 60,000 drivers on their site.

You might still have the driver with the resource cd&#039;s the manufacturer includes with the laptop, if you still have the disks.
