Home wireless, booster?

December 23, 2009

Hey there… I live in a… funny house, and stupidly enough we can not get wireless broadband from the outside world into the house. It just screws up and no signal is recieved. I then tryed wireless internet across a single room (no intereference) and it just screwed up again for an unkown reason, even though it was a clear room no wall inbetween. I don’t know if it was a dodgy router, or maybe I have something in my ceilings that ***** with it or my phone frequency is interefering.

Which leads me to… well 2 questions.

1. What could possibly interfere with wireless??
2. Is there such thing as a wireless “boaster” that strengthsn the signal output of a wireless router or something else so I would be able to transmit it around my house. OR something that changes the frequency, any ideas right now are great.

Thanks, Demo.

Do a search on “WiFi repeaters.”. The signal is like any other radio signal, it is affected by weather and a lot of other things. By the way bringing a signal that is not yours to you could be considered illegal. Unless it is a commonly accepted public signal such as a library. Also there are type “N” devices with 4 times the range of type “G”. lol

The current legal limit for wireless transmission is 1 watt! You can extend the range/signal strength by installing higher gain antennas. Do you have your system ‘hardened’? You may have an intruder stealing some of your bandwidth if you haven’t secured your network! Best to ya! ;-) =
